I got this for my 3 year old grandson. It was the first chapter book we've read together. He immediately got the absurdity of the foot lumps under the covers, as well the fun of tear water tea. Loved the whole book, & all of it is a requirement every time we pick it up. I also followed up with the same author's Mouse Tales. I didn't think it was nearly as fun, but my main audience loves it just as much as Owl. So 2 longer books to hold his attention.

This book is what started my love of reading. Owl is a wonderful character. He has a few stories in this book that any child would love. I read this book before bed every night as a child.

I renewed this bed-time book for my daughter so many times at the library that I decided to buy her a copy. It's definitely her favorite Arnold Lobel book, but she does also love owls. Sweet little vignettes about a silly little owl really seem to help her to sleep.

We've been reading this book almost every night since we got it last week. My 7 year old can't get enough of this silly owl. There are 4 or 5 stories within the book, each one is unique and displays Owl's charming naivete. My daughter's favorite is Teardrop Tea in which Owl thinks of "sad" things to induce tears into a kettle so he can heat them up and have teardrop tea. These sad things include chairs with broken legs, spoons that have fallen behind the stove never to be seen again, and books that cannot be read because some of the pages have fallen out. Another story has the nutty Owl contemplating how he can be upstairs AND downstairs at once because he likes both places so much. In another story, Owl flips out when he sees two bumps at the foot of his bed, which turn out to be his feet, but he never does figure that out and finally goes to sleep downstairs where he says he'll be "safe". Little kids should get a kick out of how daft Owl can be at times, but it's in a loveable way. He's found his way into our hearts and we look forward to reading more Owl books!

My mother used to read this book to me as a child. Now I have the pleasure of doing it for my own child.

My grandson loves this...especially the story about "Bumps in the Night." There is no one in the universe like Arnold Lobel. (and I'm a children's author)

My youngest grandson loves this book about a silly owl who invites the Winter inside to get warm and thinks the moon is following him home. He loves being in the know about these things and giggling at the owl's foolish behavior. The illustrations are sweet and engaging and he asks for this book at bedtime very often.

This is such a fun book! I never had the pleasure of reading it as a child but picked it up from the library for my boys. They absolutely loved it and with such a low price I knew we had to have a copy of our own. We've read it several times and they enjoy quoting lines and acting out scenes from the book.
