About the Author

Lisa Joy Mitchell, a busy public relations consultant, was drawn to study Ayurvedic cooking in 1998, when chronic health problems began taking center stage in her fast-paced life. On her road to wellness, Mitchell changed her diet and began an informal study with Ayurvedic physicians Dr. Vasant Lad, Ed Danaher, and Dr. Alpana Bhatt in the US and Dr. Smita Naram in India. Mitchell is now a wellness mentor and cooking instructor based in Raleigh, North Carolina. She often works in partnership with her husband, Tom Mitchell, a chiropractic physician who practices Ayurvedic pulse assessment and herbal medicine. During the past decade, Mitchell has cooked for hundreds of participants in Ayurvedic clinics and meditation courses.

Have cooked 4 recipes after reading the wonderful introduction to Ayurvedic cooking. I immediately changed some habits that I did not know were contributing to some of my long standing digestive issues. The directions on how to cook effectively in each section was also super user friendly and "chunked" into sections that I found helpful.Recipes: YUM!!!! Broccoli and Almond Butter soup was a huge hit with the whole family, even the picky 20 year old son. The sweet potato burritos were outstanding with guacamole. I also tried the quick stove-top maple carrots which were a fantastic addition to our dinner. I can't wait to try the sweet potatoes with pecans for Thanksgiving and some of the desserts! Thank you so much for this cookbook which I am now keeping on my kitchen counter top as an easy reference to learning a better way of cooking and eating for better health.....while still enjoying food.

I have a tendency to buy multiple books on subjects I am interested in studying (THANK YOU AMAZON for the side bar suggestions! LOL). In the end, I overwhelm myself with too much new information or find that the content is the same in each book. I ordered 7 books on Ayurveda/Ayurveda cooking and this one is my absolute favorite . I have been leaning toward eating mostly vegetarian and I have Celiac disease as well as other issues rearing their ugly head. This book by far was the best place to start my healing journey.The book is simple to read because it is so well written. I don't want to say an "overview" was provided on the concepts of Ayurveda because Lisa Joy Mitchell has expertly consolidated the important information about the subject instead of applying the typical redundancy you see in many books that will have you repeating "Get to the point!"She has given a glossary of terms for the unfamiliar reader and outlined the most important principals, followed by a multitude of delicious recipes marked for each Dosha. From technical notes to snippets of traditional history, this book will remain in my kitchen as a daily guide and reminder of just how important food is for feeding the body and soul.One final BEAUTIFUL touch are the many blessings she has highlighted throughout, from a Gaelic Grace and a Christian prayer, to a Hindu Blessing. All gentle reminders that food is truly sacred for all people.

I started reading this book this morning. Y’all! This book is so so good. If you have any interest in food, health, or sacred living, do yourself a favor. Do your body a favor. Big thanks to the author. Thank you for the time, love, persistence and attention to detail, so good!

For years I have been curious about Ayurvedic science so Lisa Mitchell's section explaining how it works was very useful. My husband and I are different doshas so the hints are very useful to adjust the recipes so we both can be balanced. Already I had been eating mostly organic and drinking room temp filtered water but now I'm taking on eating before 7 PM and adding more squash and sweet potatoes. I guess this would be the time to commit to giving up Starbucks frappuccinos!! I love the asparagus soup and the dals and oatmeal chocolate chip cookies and just tonight I made the mashed potatoes with caramelized red onions and black mustard seeds. Wow, was that good! Even thumbing through the recipes and looking at the pictures makes you want to make them all. This cookbook will be a favorite for years to come!

Wonderful and beautiful book! Great recipes. Easy to follow. I have made the vegetable soup, lentils and almond milk. All excellent! My husband loved the lentils and he normally hates lentils. I love the veggie soup. And the almond milk is amazing. It is so worth it to make fresh! The book is a nice gift as well. I gave it to a gluten free friend and a vegetarian friend.

This is my new favorite cook book!!! You can taste the love and care that went in to each recipe. Even my KIDS have loved everything I have made and the recipe are all so healthy.👏🏻😋

After cooking Lisa Mitchell’s yummy recipes I understand how the word “Sacred” made its way into the book title. She obviously created the book from a state of inspired reverence for the healing properties of food, an experience she describes as the divine nectar of food nourishing body, mind and spirit. The sacredness of each recipe travels from the book, into the cooking, onto the plate, and into your body. With every bite I found myself lightly vibrating in gratitude while saying “Mmmmmm, so good!”

This beautiful book with stunning photographs includes delicious recipes that are easy to follow. Plus, the info about an Ayurvedic diet and some philosophy that guides it is illuminating. One doesn't have to follow the regimen strictly to get benefits and to even feel better. But, there's so much good feedback about making smart dietary and lifestyle choices based on individual traits and tendencies. This book is the perfect gift to give to others and to yourself.
